Recent statistics reveal a concerning prevalence of this disease, with over <b>50 million people affected globally<\/b> and a mortality rate ranging between 25% and 30%, with an annual increase of 9%. Moreover, sepsis survivors often face significant long-term health complications.<\/p>\n<p>The <b>economic impact associated with sepsis is considerable<\/b>, with healthcare costs around 30,000 dollars per patient in the United States and similar figures in the European Union. Despite this financial and health burden, <b>there is currently no specific treatment for this condition<\/b>. She is also co-director of the International Institute of Melatonin (IiMEL) and co-founder of the company Pharmamel. Over the past 30 years, she has conducted research studying the properties and mechanisms of action of melatonin and its role in mitochondria.
